Salem Halloween Cookies
Last Wednesday 31st October was Halloween. Two days before that date,on Monday and Tuesday, children from 2nd to 6th level prepared in the class the Salem Halloween Cookies. They are made with: some flour, some sugar, some butter, nuts and a pinch of salt. And they had to: chop, add, mix, roll and put them into the fridge and then into the oven. This was exactly what we learned, ingredients and instructions from a recipe. Enjoy your cookies!!!

Halloween History
Halloween is an event that most children studying English are familiar with as it is often presented in their course books. However, do they know WHY we celebrate Halloween?
History of Halloween
There are many different ideas as to how Halloween celebrations started. A number of people believe that this tradition began thousands of years ago with the Celts. The Celtic people celebrated New Year’s Day on November 1st and, to protect themselves against the winter, they organised activities to scare off evil spirits the night of October 31st.
This is one version; however, some people believe that Halloween has a shorter history.
Why do people wear costumes for Halloween?
Wearing costumes for Halloween began hundreds of years ago. Many people believed that ghosts roamed the streets the night before All Saint’s Day so they wore masks and costumes to keep evil spirits away. In the past, aside from wearing masks, people used to also place bowls of food on their doorsteps to make sure ghosts and spirits didn’t enter in their houses.

Halloween
On October the 29th we celebrated Halloween in the morning in de school and in the night in the village square.
On Thursday in the morning we made Salem Halloween cookies in the school, they were very sweet.
Children of sixth level dressed up horrific fancy dresses. We decorated the horrific corridor with: vampires, skulls, witches, green hands, mummies, bats...
At the same time, in the village square there was a pumpkin contest in the night.
Then, we went to collect sweets in group.
This Halloween, has been the best because we thoroughly enjoyed it and we have collected lots of sweets.

Halloween in Campredó
Halloween is on 31st October. We celebrate it in the school and in Campredó too.We run through the streets and we wear masks. It is dark. We are very happy. My friends are happy too. In church square there is a party. People eat chestnuts.
The catalan name is “ La castanyada ”. Children play “ Trick or Treat”.
We dress up and ask for sweets . We dress up as skeletons, mummies, ghosts, witches and assassins. People scream. People also hold pumpkin lanterns to light up the streets.

In the school we prepare " The Salem Halloween Cookies" and we celebrate both festivities altogether.

Halloween is celebrated in some English speaking countries and in Catalonia too.
